THE GIFT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

What is the Holy Trinity?

One God in three Divine persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  It is the Father who generates, the Son who is begotten, and the Holy Spirit who proceeds.  The Holy Spirit is the third divine Person of the Blessed Trinity, the personal love of Father and Son for each other.

What are the Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit?

Wisdom, Understanding, Counsel, Fortitude, Knowledge, Piety and Fear of the Lord.

What is the Gift of Wisdom?

The Gift of Wisdom helps us not to seek perishable thing but to seek things that are eternal. We see the Gift of Wisdom expressed in the parables of Jesus.

With the Gift of Wisdom you can understand the deeper meaning of the ups and downs of your life. The Gift of Wisdom helps you to see God at work in your life.

The Gift of Wisdom helps you to pause before you make a decision and allow all of your gifts to come to play when you make a decision.

Can you give some examples of times in your life when you applied the Gift of Wisdom?

What is the Gift of Understanding?

The Gift of Understanding the Spirit helps us to know God, to know ourselves, and to know the sure and certain path to heaven.

With the Gift of Understanding you won't become confused by all the conflicting messages in our contemporary culture about the right way to live because you understand how you need to live as a follower of Jesus.

We see the Gift of Understanding in Jesus' compassion to the poor and sick and in His forgiveness of sinners.

The Gift of Counsel will help you to avoid sin because you know the difference between right and wrong and are able to make the right judgement.

What is the Gift of Fortitude?

The Gift of Fortitude will give you the courage to stand up for the Gospel of Life that rejects it and ridicules it.

We see the Gift of Piety in Jesus' reverence for His heavenly Father.

The Gift of Piety is the gift of confidence in God. No matter what we don't have to worry because if God is with us who can be against us.

What is the Fear of the Lord?

The Gift of Fear of the Lord is also known as Awe for God.  It is fearing not what God might do to us but fearing that we might in some way displease God who has loved us so.

We see the Gift of Fear of the Lord also known as Awe for God in the way Jesus showed awe for the wonders of creation, the lilies of the field and the birds of the air.

The Gift of Fear of the Lord is also referred to as Awe for God because God is all powerful. This gift helps us to realize that only God can complete us and give us true happiness then we become fearful of losing that through sin.

Can you give some examples of times in your life when you applied the Gift of Fear of the Lord?

"The gifts of wisdom, knowledge, counsel, and understanding

the Holy Spirit shapes our mind and the way we think and put information together.

Through the gifts of fortitude, piety and fear of the Lord,

the Holy Spirit shapes your will,

so that you choose to use what you learn and think

for the purposes God is calling you to do."
